According to analyzes of online campaigns and social networks, experts of the Aman Group, in cooperation with Terrogence and ClearSky, identified two planned cyber attacks on Israel in the coming month - on March 10th and on April 7th. The experts recognize the attacks as part of the “Hacktivists month”.
"As the dates of the attacks approach we identify more and more cyber attacks against Israeli sites and leaks of databases”, says Haim Levy, director of cyber sales in Aman Group. "We have already identified claims of hackers for attacks against routers and modems in Israel and for stealing thousands of email addresses which will be leaked, according to the attackers, on April 7th.
At the same time, we should pay attention to the growing use and interest in Amplification attacks including NTP attacks. We have already located a person seeking to obtain guidance on the use of this method towards the coming operations”.
Aman, Terrogence and ClearSky is following the cumulative findings of the social networks. According to Haim Levy, the hackers are planning on both cases attacks of: DDoS, defacement, SQLi, RAT, or phishing. They identify groups that organize from around the Muslim world - North Africa (Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria), South East - Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia), and the Middle East (Jordan, the Palestinian territories, Syria).
The attack of March 10 is currently valued at a low risk, since it appears that that amount of participants is low. The campaign was launched on February 9th, under the name OpIsrael 3.0, with the opening of an official Twitter page (not active for over two weeks) and distribution of a list of targets which includes 1,300 Israeli internet sites, including government sites, banks, defense industries, academic institutions, media organizations and others.
A few days later also a Facebook page was created for the event, but so far only 100 users joined it, so it is not certain that the attack will be effective. On April 7th, however, experts recognize higher level of risk, since thousands of participants are expected.
The selected date marks a year to the previous cyber attack on Israel (therefore it is called OpIsrael Birthday), and the official Facebook page of the event, which was opened by the hackers group AnonGhost, has been joined by about 400 members who joined the thousands of others who confirmed their participation in the campaign in number of additional event pages on Facebook. In addition, an Iranian hacker group called Parastoo announced it will also take part in the operation and begin attacking Israeli targets already on April 4th.
