(Scroll down for video) Two Jewish teens were attacked with acid during a Ramadan festival this week, according to police reports in Zanzibar.

Some eyewitnesses claimed that the two women were attacked because they were dressed inappropriately, however, the parents of the acid attack victims Kirstie Trup and Katie Gee, denied the accusations.

The two 18-year-olds, both from north-west London, United Kingdom, were attacked in Zanzibar, East Africa, as locals observed Ramadan.

The parents of Trup said that the girls were targeted "for no reason". Trup said: "We knew it's a Muslim country. They were not dressed inappropriately because they knew the rules."
Gee, 45, said: "They were dressed appropriately, they just attacked two girls.”

Two men on a motorbike threw acid at the girls as they walked along the island's capital, Stone Town, on Wednesday night.
Five men are being questioned by local police in connection with the attacks, but no one has been arrested.

The girls, who were both FZY members, were in their last week of a volunteer program organized by the organization i-to-i. They were taken to a hospital in Dar es Salaam with injuries that are not life threatening on their hands, breasts and face, and are expected to return home on a flight on Friday.

It is believed that the two girls were careful not to wear anything that would identify them as Jews.
The local deputy police commissioner Mkadam Khamis said that police do not know the motive for the attack. Zanzibar police have launched a manhunt, and ask for public assistance to identify the attackers.
