Iran reportedly carries out cyber-attack on Israel

Iran tried to carry out an extensive cyber-attack on Israeli civilian communications during Operation Protective Edge, an Israeli security source told the Jerusalem Post.
"This is not something we have seen before, both in terms of scope and the type of targets," an unnamed source told the Post. "They targeted communications infrastructure that belong to the civilian sector in Israel."
The source added that Iran was definitely behind the attacks and that their goal was not achieved.
Cyber attackers also reportedly targeted the Israeli army's websites, which managed to withstand the cyber-assault since a new communications network had been implemented during the operation in Gaza.
"Our aim is to enable a military force to be far more effective than it was a year ago. We succeeded in seeing that during this operation," the source was quoted as saying.
The new network allows for the military to connect directly to Military Intelligence via encrypted servers. Soldiers in IDF ground units were thus able to view visual intelligence gathered from aerial forces before entering a combat zone.
The intelligence network was regularly updated with relevant information, including what was obtained from the interrogation of Hamas suspects.
Naval forces were able to fire precision guided ammunition at targets deep inside Gaza relayed to them via ground forces, the source said.
